(STILLWATER, Okla.) June 30, 2023 – After 47 years in Stillwater, Kent and Lydia Taylor had had enough. They decided recently, no more suffering through slow download speeds and no more letting their kids tell them they were “behind the times.”

On Wednesday, the Taylors made the switch to the new fiber internet provider in town, Bluepeak. When they connected fiber to their home in West Stillwater, they became the 10,000th Bluepeak subscriber in the state of Oklahoma. As a gesture of appreciation and to mark the milestone, Bluepeak presented Lydia with a gift basket containing goodies from local businesses, like Persimmon Hill Farm and Bakery, along with coffee and department store gift cards.

“I feel honored,” Kent said with a laugh. He went on to note his decision was based largely on recommendations from others in Stillwater.

“We know a lot of friends here in town that have gone to Bluepeak, and they are very happy with it,” he said. “They have told us it is very fast.”

The Taylor’s friends aren’t the only ones who’ve noticed Bluepeak is raising the standard for broadband speeds in town. An analysis by Ookla® of Speedtest Intelligence® data showed Bluepeak now provides the fastest internet speeds in Stillwater and Payne County.* The analysis – which ranks mobile and fixed broadband speeds from internet service providers around the world – shows that Bluepeak delivered the fastest median download speeds to its Internet customers in Stillwater during the first quarter of 2023.

Adoption of Bluepeak’s fiber internet offering has been gaining serious momentum this year, in Stillwater and ten other Bluepeak markets in Oklahoma. Bluepeak has nearly 2,500 subscribers in Stillwater now, since launching service last year. Nearby Enid has more than 2,000 Bluepeak customers, as well. Bluepeak subscriber numbers in Lawton and Altus recently surpassed 1,000 too.

Even with 10,000 more Oklahomans connected to Bluepeak’s fast, reliable and affordable fiber internet, work remains to increase access and close the Digital Divide in the state. According to the Oklahoma Broadband Office, more than 800,000 Oklahomans – more than one-in-five – currently lack access to dependable high-speed internet service. Furthermore, Oklahoma ranks 45th in the nation in broadband access, according to broadbandnow.com.

Thus far, Oklahomans who have found Bluepeak have seen how fiber service can dramatically improve their options for connectivity. Around the state, some of Bluepeak’s earliest adopters have shared stories of internet speeds growing 70 times faster and being  “amazed” by the reliability. Others have appreciated Bluepeak’s affordability, with options starting at 1-gigabit-per-second for just $50 per month.

In addition, Bluepeak continues to grow in the Sooner State and the fiber provider’s expansion progress is right on track. Construction has continued throughout the year in Stillwater, Lawton, Altus, Clinton, Bartlesville, Enid and more. Bluepeak has also gained franchise approval this year to build to new communities like Norman and Midwest City. In all, Bluepeak has committed to investing more than $500 million to expand fiber internet access in Oklahoma.
